Areas of Research

Animal Behavior & Conservation:  Marine Mammals and Domestic Dogs

Wildlife: I am interested in the newly emergent discipline of Conservation behavior, which applies animal behavior knowledge to solving wildlife conservation problems.  My undergraduate degree in Marine Science and my graduate degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Science gradually led me to this new discipline, which is critically important to successful conservation management plans.

Mammals in the Care of Humans:  I am also interested in enrichment, learning theory, animal emotions, training and behavior modification, with a focus on domestic dogs and marine mammals.  My post-graduate training with the Karen Pryor Academy and private consulting business as Ask Dr. Caryn About Animal Behavior & Training, have me spending as much time on land as at sea!
