Marine Fisheries Science, Fisheries Management, Fisheries Policy, Environmental Policy, Planning, Pelagic Fish, Recreational and Commercial Fisheries, Stable Isotopes and Ecology.

The primary focus of my research is the trophic ecology of several recreationally important fish species found in the coastal pelagic to pelagic environment of the waters off southeast Florida. These fishes include: wahoo, king mackerel, spanish mackerel, yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, skipjack tuna, little tunny, bonito, amberjack, and dolphin (mahi). A combined use of stomach content analysis and stable isotope analysis is being used to evaluate the trophic ecology of these species as an ecological complex. I also collect stomach, gonad, muscle tissue, and liver samples that are being used in a chemical analysis to test for the presence of hydrocarbons and petroleum dispersants from the Deep Water Horizon oil spill event in 2010. The samples from this research are collected at several collaborating recreational pelagic fishing tournaments and by experimentally gillnetting in the southeast region of the Florida Straits.
